Welcome to the South Carolina Historical Society!
Established in 1855, the South Carolina Historical Society is dedicated to expanding, preserving, and making accessible our invaluable collection, and encouraging interest and pride in the rich history of our state.
Please take a few minutes to explore our website for information about our collections, publications, and upcoming events, as well as ways in which you can support the important mission of the South Carolina Historical Society.
The library of the South Carolina Historical Society is open Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on the first and third Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
A note to users of the SCHS online catalog and visiting researchers:
Although we share a catalog interface with the College of Charleston, access to our collections remains unhindered until November 17, 2014 when library and archival services will be suspended in order for staff to begin packing and preparing the collection for relocation.
Library and archival services will reopen at our new location on the third floor of the Addlestone Library on Monday, January 12, 2015.
Except for holiday closings, our administrative offices will remain open as usual.
