The South Carolina Historical Society’s 2007 Fall Tour will be held in St. John’s Parish, including
Rockville, Wadmalaw Island, and John’s Island. Plan a leisurely day exploring with us historic
houses, plantations, and other sites that retain the charming heritage of the sea islands.
Among the
offerings, guests will have the opportunity to tour the Townsend and Bailey Houses, which capture
the essence of old Rockville, as well as the Glenn House. Visit the Charleston Tea Plantation, the
only tea farm in America, and see how one of the South’s favorite beverages is cultivated. Travel
on to New Cut Plantation, which dates to the early eighteenth century, or view beautiful postbellum
High Point. All ticket-holders are invited to join us for a barbeque lunch during the tour, included in the cost.

OYSTER ROAST & TOUR
Irvin-House Vineyards
Saturday, October 27 • 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
On the eve of the St. John’s Parish Tour, on
Saturday, October 27, the South Carolina
Historical Society will host an Oyster Roast
at Irvin-House Vineyards, Charleston’s only
winery and vineyards. The owners purchased
this beautiful forty-eight-acre farm, converted
the barns into a winery, and planted their first
grapevines in March 2001. By 2003, they were
making and bottling wine for distribution. Relax
with a glass of Irvin-House’s award-winning
muscadine wine and enjoy delicious lowcountry
fare under the ancient oak trees draped with
Spanish moss. Cost per adult is $35, or $95
when combined with the Fall Tour. |
By Phone. Call SCHS at (843) 723-3225 ext. 13. This option will be available only until noon on Friday, Oct. 26. Please have your credit card handy.
On site. Tickets will be available the day of the tour at tour headquarters located
at Edward D. Bailey House, 2456 Sea Island Yacht Club Road, Rockville.
