2010 Fall Tour:
The Santee Delta
October 31

The South Carolina Historical Society will host its annual Fall Tour in the Santee Delta. One of the most pristine natural settings on the Eastern coast, the Santee Delta is located approximately ten miles south of Georgetown. Anchored by the Cape Romain Wildlife Refuge and the Santee Coastal Reserve, the area boasts a large saltwater estuary perfect for fishing and crabbing and is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in South Carolina.

Because the marshlands were enclosed with dikes and cultivated as the nation's principle rice-growing area, the Santee Delta produced the richest class of planters and slave-owners in North America. Several of their coastal properties, some dating back to the eighteenth century, have been beautifully preserved and made available to the Society for our tour.

Please join us as we stap back in time to explore the scenic beauty and architectural and agricultural richness of the Santee Delta. Stayed tuned for more information about the Fall Tour in the coming months!
