Article Submissions

Article Submission Guidelines

The Publications staff is always accepting article submissions for the South Carolina Historical Magazine and for Carologue. Electronic files are preferred, though hard copies will be accepted for review. Text should be in Word format, unless otherwise directed, and submitted via CD or e-mail. We cannot print articles that have been published in another publication (print or on-line). We reserve the right to edit for style and content. Rejected articles will not be returned.

South Carolina Historical Magazine

  • Submissions to the Magazine are reviewed using the double-blind method by the SCHM Editorial Board, a peer group of leading authorities on South Carolina history, and other experts.
  • Articles should be scholarly in nature and contain annotation
  • Notes should appear in a separate section at the end of the text
  • In matters of form and style, the Magazine follows the sixteenth edition of The Chicago Manual of Style
  • A brief curriculum vita should accompany each submission
  • 25-30 pages in length, typed (12-point font), and double-spaced

Carologue

  • Submissions to Carologue are reviewed by the Publications staff. We reserve the right to edit for style and content.
  • Articles should address some aspect of South Carolina history, preferably tied to the Society’s collections
  • Authors should provide images or suggest images from our collections that can be used to illustrate the article
  • Approximately 1,500 to 3,000 words in length, typed (12-point font), and double-spaced
  • Although Carologue articles are not annotated, a bibliography should accompany each submission
  • Due to the nature of our production schedule, it may be 6-10 weeks before a decision on a submission is reached. Thank you for your patience.
