Membership
In order to carry out its mission of collecting, preserving,
and publishing the state's history, the South Carolina Historical
Society relies on the support of its members. All that is required
for membership is an interest in South Carolina history. Members
come from every walk of life, from all fifty states, and more
than a dozen countries. Members enjoy a variety of programs
and benefits, including:
- A subscription to the Society's two award-winning periodicals,
Carologue and the South Carolina Historical Magazine.
Carologue, the quarterly general-interest magazine,
offers articles and photographs about South Carolina history,
genealogy, preservation, and Society news and events. The
scholarly quarterly, the South Carolina Historical Magazine,
has been published since 1900, with articles on every period
of our history and every corner of our state, plus book reviews
and descriptions of recent manuscript acquisitions.
- An invitation to Society-sponsored lectures, tours, and
social functions. Functions include the annual spring and
fall plantation tours featuring historic homes rarely opened
to the public, the Society's annual meeting and luncheon,
as well as other events incorporating the architectural and
historic gems of our state.
- Free research privileges in the Society's collections.
