Make a DonationThe obligation of the South Carolina Historical
Society to collect evidence of the past is never ending, and
a successful accessions program depends on you! There are many
ways to contribute to the Society, including donations of Archival
Materials, becoming a member of the Proprietors'
Council, Gifts of Stock,
and through Estate Planning. Archival MaterialsThe South Carolina Historical Society provides
a permanent home to materials from all over the state, from people
of all walks of life. Family letters and photographs, business
records, church registers, and club minutes may seem like mundane
remnants of everyday life, but they are the historical treasures
of the future. Such documents will one day provide valuable insight
into the lives of South Carolinians.
What fate awaits the old papers and photographs in your attic, closet, or basement? The potential for damage is great. Temperature and humidity changes and direct light can damage papers and photographs. Most envelopes and cardboard boxes contain acids that eventually discolor and damage their contents. Paper clips, staples, and other metal fasteners develop rust and stain documents. Our collections are housed in acid-free archival storage and kept in a secure, climate-controlled environment. People who donate the records of their family business or organization to us take comfort in knowing that their great-great-grandchildren will find their papers well preserved and easily accessible. Will your papers be preserved? We invite you
to join the South Carolina Historical Society in our mission
to collect and preserve the history of our state. Without your
efforts, our history goes unwritten. 100 Meeting Street Charleston, South Carolina 29401 Fax: (843) 723-8584
Proprietors' CouncilThe South Carolina Historical Society is
a private, not-for-profit organization. Individual contributions
are its lifeblood, without which, the Society could not fulfill
its mission. This is a solicitation for you to become, if not
already, an active supporter of the Society by joining the Proprietors'
Council.
As a Proprietors' Council member you will receive all the benefits of regular membership, including the Society's two quarterly publications, Carologue and the South Carolina Historical Magazine, and research privileges at the Fireproof Building. Members of the Proprietors' Council also receive
exclusive invitations to special events and complimentary tickets
to our popular fall plantation tour. Proprietors' Council members
are listed in the front of each issue of the South Carolina
Historical Magazine. 100 Meeting Street Charleston, South Carolina 29401 Fax: (843) 723-8584
Gifts of StockStock gifts are a wonderful way to contribute
to the Society!

Recently, a gift of $100,000 allowed the Society to upgrade its library computer system to meet national standards. This same donation will enable us to move forward with the purchase and installation of compact shelving, which is imperative for the continued growth of the Society's collections. The Society's endowment is critical to the future of our organization. A healthy endowment allows an organization to grow, to offer more services for our members, and to continue in our mission of collecting, preserving, and publishing the history of South Carolina. We hope that you will consider giving a gift
of endowment to our organization. Your gifts guarantee the future
of our organization. 100 Meeting Street Charleston, South Carolina 29401 Fax: (843) 723-8584 |
