Research ServicesThe South Carolina Historical Society receives so many inquiries and requests for information that it is impossible for our small staff to offer extensive services. Services that the Society offers are listed on the attached sheet, along with corresponding fees. The listed charges cover searching for ONE INDIVIDUAL OR SUBJECT ONLY. Please print out and complete the research request form and return it with your check made out to the South Carolina Historical Society. For photographic research services, please contact Visual Materials Curator Mike Coker and read the photo research form for information about services and fees, image duplication, and copyright requests. Please keep in mind that even an exhaustive search may not uncover the information you are seeking. The South Carolina Historical Society's holding pertain to the state of South Carolina, with large amounts of materials on families of the Midlands and the Lowcountry. If an individual did not spend a significant amount of time in South Carolina, the Society may not have information pertaining to him or her. The Society has neither the censuses of South Carolina in its holdings or the newspapers (except for the papers of Charleston from 1732-1782). Please note the average length of a search is approximately six to eight weeks. The South Carolina Historical Society encourages
researchers to use the Society's collections at the Fireproof
Building on 100 Meeting Street. Members may use the library
free of charge. There is a $5.00 daily fee for non-members.
